The Palace of the Republic (Krasiński Palace), erected in the second half of the 17th century, is a true gem of Warsaw’s architecture and one of the capital’s most iconic symbols. Today, it houses the National Library and plays a key cultural and museum role on the map of Warsaw. The renovation completed in 2025 gave the Palace’s history a new dimension, enriching it with modern KAN-therm solutions that seamlessly blend with its historical character.
A Monument That Tells a New Story
Originally owned by the Krasiński family, the Palace of the Republic served for centuries as a prestigious residence and a prominent symbol of the power of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Its interiors were adorned with works of art that are now part of the national heritage. Today, the Palace is an important cultural hub, storing the most valuable collections of the National Library. It serves as a venue for exhibitions and educational events that showcase Poland’s literary heritage.
Thanks to modernization, the building now combines historical value with modern technologies, enabling interactive presentation of collections—crucial for preserving and promoting national culture. The facility was also adapted to the needs of people with disabilities: elevators, ramps, and automatic doors were installed to ensure easy access for all visitors.
Additionally, restoration work brought new life to the historic façade, and the decorative stuccowork and architectural details were renewed to highlight the building’s historical essence.
Installation Challenges
Monument renovation is a process full of challenges—from preserving the historical character of interiors to adapting them for new functions, all while complying with strict conservation requirements. Every decision required precise selection of solutions to ensure durability and safety of installations for years to come.
That’s why it was crucial to choose systems that would be not only reliable over the long term but would also minimize the risk of further renovation work being required.
Modern Solutions for Historical Interiors
Faced with the challenges of renovating this heritage site, the investor opted for the KAN-therm Inox System for central heating installations. Over 1.8 km (1,800 linear meters) of stainless steel pipes were used, along with nearly 1,000 elbows and over 300 tees, fittings, and brackets. This choice was driven by the unique aesthetic and functional properties of stainless steel, which maintains its appearance and performance over the years. In addition, all our products come with a warranty, ensuring long-term reliability and peace of mind.
